Spencer Pyrenes X Old Training Footage of Day 2 and 3 Electronic Collar

This was taken in the beginning of December 2011.   Where is Spencer now?   Enjoying a full life with his family, not attacking dogs that come near his family, and being able to enjoy expanded and freedom due to this:)


It is important to train dogs in different areas.  This is why Day 2 is on the beach, and day 3 is in the woods off lead with other dogs.  The beach was a particularly calm day with no one else around, so it was a bit easier for Spencer.   The woods was full of new smells and friends, so it's not that it was really harder for Spencer so much as his adrenaline levels were elevated so he did not feel what was the working stim the day before.   When the dogs do feel it, they are usually trying to figure out what kind of bug is on them at first that is pestering them LOL.   Sometimes being in a different environment makes generalizing harder for a dog as well.  

Someday I am going to go on a walk with Spencer and family and show you all the finished product.   However, I do like to keep the beginning steps visible for clients and the interested parties.   So many times if you are showing the finished product, or training with an already trained dog as an example, a future dog trainer/owner (who will train) will think that they are experiencing something unusual when it does not go the same as the demo with the already trained dog .

I like to show where the learning begins, happens, and ends.   The full story if you will.  Spencer's owner reports that he is doing well, and it is much easier to walk him in public with their growing (human babies) family.

May 2011 Work With Alyssa

These days we are using all the commands in mock "routines" for "real life" situations.   Additionally, I am getting Alyssa used to being handled by strangers now when she needs to with the goal of having a stress free veterinarian appointment:)

So this is all old work that will show somewhat of how we got to where we are presently:)  For instance all that molding work we did, and continue to do, will now start to pay off for stranger examination.

York Maine Animal Control Ordinance

September 20th is the day when dogs can run leash free on the beach all day long!!! Know your animal control ordinances. Here is a link to York Maine's animal control ordinance, section 10 relates to public beaches.

Section 12 relates to the dangerous dog law.

Thursday Thirteen (13) Monday Run Thru Notes

Using this Thursday Thirteen to document some run thru notes:

1. Jackie boy, need to stop turning into him.   



2. Jackie got swayed by the smell of treats, during certain exercises, on Evelyn's hands.   Need to stop him from breaking from obvious food.



3. Jackie broke when unexpected military man came in the room.   However, Jackie did stay in place in sit (broke in down) when between two very cute female dogs (one Italian grey hound, and one Chihuaua named Sassy).



4. Jackie, we need to work on our finish now without luring.



5. Jackie, need to stop him from trying to covertly sniff the ground for fallen treats.



6. Jackie, attention could be better when in the stays.  He does it well, until something unexpected comes along (military man, or he's between two cute girls).



7. Jackie, stopped sticking his stand due to cookie smell on Evelyn.   Need to make sure he sticks this, and stays even if judges have been touching cookies:)



8. Devon, work on Stand AND Finish.



9. Devon concerned about judge following or others working with their dogs.  Some of this will be worked out in run thrus, but need to get him out more in public "dealing".



10. Brie, work on circles to get her turned in and closer, as Evelyn showed.



11. Brie, did her first off leash heel that went okay.   We had done one before, when I thought she wasn't ready but instructor insisted.  Hadn't gone that bad, but two instances where Brie was pretty sure it was play time.



12. Brie, her front is perfect.   Need to not screw it up.



13. Brie, need to work on finish, and stand walking behind and examine.

****Me 1)  No stepping into dogs 2)  work on about turns still---better with Jackie and horrible with other two 3)  move out with Jackie during fast heel, so judge can tell pace has changed even though Jack just lengthens his stride .......

Complaint to York Maine Police

Hello,

I am a dog trainer and owner in York Beach Maine.   I was out with my dogs this morning before 8am off leash.   A Sergeant walked up to me & my husband and stated that the dogs were supposed to be leashed.

When we first said, the ordinance clearly states between 6am and 8am dogs can be off leash, he belligerently stated otherwise.  By the way, my dogs were seated and are viewed by many on many mornings during training sessions where they are in voice control.  And so that was not in issue.

Finally, after suggesting he take a walk with me and read the ordinance, he relented and made a "somewhat" apology.   Then claimed he got the times of day mixed up.  This is after belligerently saying otherwise to us a few times.   

Being that I obey the leash laws to the letter (if after 6pm I am on the beach with my dogs, they are leashed) and I see many a tourist out there with their unleashed dog, this is very distressing to me.   There seem to be no officers out there enforcing the law, and because I am obeying the leash law (as I was this morning) my dogs and I are enjoying the beach less than non-tax paying tourists.

Additionally, the beach is disgusting with cigarette butts, juice containers and condoms, which I am forced to look out for so my dogs can be told to "leave it" so they don't digest such trash on the beach.

As a law abiding citizen, please allow me to enjoy the few minutes of lawful off leash time with my dogs in the morning without harassment.  Please see that police officers are dispatched and know the laws in the area so that those not obeying the leash laws can be fined.
