Robin Rubin, Boris, and Leon on Ogunquit Beach along the Marginal Way |
Robin began her education in dog training by apprenticing at Doberman Rescue Unlimited during 2003 to 2004. She earned her professional membership in the International Association of Canine Professionals in 2007. Furthering her dog training education is a main goal every year. Dog training seminars attended in the past have included Margot Woods Back to Basics School, Martin Deeley, Behesha Doan (formally Grist), Introduction to Tracking with the Vermont Tracking Club, Carolyn Scott’s Freestyle Dance Seminar, Mike Ellis's Focus and Drive, and Nose work Classes.. Seminars and classes that are of special interest are those that allow you to bring and work with dogs.
Year 2013 expectations are to submit applications National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and the International Association of Canine Professionals for certification from these organizations. The group classes are planned to be rolled out in Spring 2013, and will be quite different than other group canine classes in the area as far as exposure to distraction. Additionally, Mannerly Mutts is considering starting an obedience club in the area where owners and trainers can use their own methods and tools.
Robin started her adult life in a different field altogether, which was working for a certified public accounting firm and later working as a Controller for corporate manufacturing companies. While she was very talented and productive in that role, Ms Rubin began yearning to do something that made a difference beyond the corporate world. Her life long love of dogs and volunteering with rescue dogs eventually led her into this career path as a dog trainer.
When not working with dogs, Robin and her husband, Robert, enjoy skiing, antiquing, concerts, hiking, and boogey boarding. Their family currently includes two Dobermans. Boris is a black male Doberman, who came from Doberman Rescue Unlimited in Sandown NH at 13 weeks and was born on 10/4/2009 . Stormy is our 11 year old forever foster female black Doberman. She was a highly trained dog in the sport of Schutzhund and completed all three levels. Later as a husband and baby were acquired by her original owner, the original owner grew bored of Stormy. Stormy was thereafter regulated to the basement and backyard largely in solitude. In 2012, Doberman Rescue Unlimited took her case, and the organization and an employee still provide the funds for her medical care and food. Stormy's original breeder is in touch, and provides her with supplements for her achy knees.
